Conservative Revolution??
Maybe not, but conservatives across America and in South Dakota went to bed smiling.
Scott Walker put an end to the liberal uprising in his state. Good job Governor!
In South Dakota, the Governor took a different direction, endorsing candidates from the moderate/left wing of the party. He didn’t do so well!
Not all of the races in South Dakota went to conservatives, but enough to claim victory! So who should get the credit?? I’m not sure it matters all that much, but political commentators seem to be stuck on that question. Most of the credit goes to good candidates who are principled conservatives. Still, there were other factors that contributed to the successes of the day.
Grassroots efforts from many groups provided help to various campaigns. That help ranged from putting up signs to independently mailed campaign postcards. Volunteers put in hours walking with candidate flyers. The Life and Liberty Group provided some help with information based evaluations on candidates, as did other organizations. The conservative wing of the Republican party owes a large debt of gratitude to many people and organizations who worked hard to take back some ground occupied by moderate/liberal Republicans.
It’s fair to say that many efforts were less than perfect, but everyone continues to learn and get better as we prepare for the next battle. We will all benefit from the lessons learned. No battle is won without cost or casualty.
There is certainly no shortage of criticism from “outside” the conservative ranks… even some disagreement between people and organizations within the movement. Regardless, at least some of the efforts were successful. Thank God for those who performed the best in this contest!! You motivate and inspire the rest of us to try again and be wiser next time.
The net result is that conservatives will have a larger voice in State politics thanks to the hard work of so many. You have good reason to keep smiling!
