Daugaard Seeing The Big Picture

Governor Daugaard explains his support for candidates who are pro-abortion, pro-gambling and pro-homosexual by saying he has to “look at the big picture”.

He says there are already enough “social conservatives” in Pierre, but he is short on “fiscal conservatives”.  One might suggest that the Governor is personally short in BOTH of those areas.

His argument is nothing more than a weak talking point, at best.  In truth, he abandoned social conservatives AND fiscal conservatives when he made his endorsements.

If you happen to be an unborn child, abortion vs life IS the big picture!

But let’s look beneath the surface of the “big picture” argument.

The Governors “big picture” endorsements included Senator Tom Nelson.  Nelson supported over $100 million dollars in annual tax increases.  That is HARDLY a fiscal conservative.  Nelson also is a huge supporter of gambling and has a dismal record on social issues.  So why did the Governor endorse him over a much more conservative candidate?

Another “big picture” endorsement was Senator Bruce Rampelburg.  Bruce is a nice guy, who has been willing to “go along” with social conservatives when it comes time to vote, but certainly not someone who is willing to take the lead.  Once again, the Governor’s argument is a cover of deception.  Rampelburg joined other fiscally liberal Republicans to support $100 million dollars in tax increases every year.  Not the mark of a fiscal conservative.  Why did the Governor endorse him over a candidate who is both socially and fiscally a strong conservative?

There are certainly others, but the results of an examination would only further disprove the Governors political cover that he “needed fiscal conservatives”.  His endorsements were NOT for the most fiscally conservative candidates in ANY case.  So why DID he endorse these liberal Republican candidates?

Now the Governor is doing more Robocalls, complaining about all the “nonsense”.  He is, of course, referring to the factually accurate anonymous robocalls and postcards that expose the voting records of these liberal Republicans who choose to ignore their own party platform when they vote.  While he is angry and investigating the kind of activity that he was personally engaged in during the recent primary election, he has chosen to give an explanation for his endorsements that is simply untrue.

So why did the Governor REALLY endorse these liberal Republicans?  Because they reflect his own political point of view, and he could count on them to support his agenda. If he were really conservative in his core beliefs, socially and fiscally, he would have either stayed out of the primaries or endorsed the conservative candidates.

The only thing more disturbing than the Governors disingenuous excuses are the people and organizations who give him political cover by accepting and promoting his untrue excuses for his war against conservatives.
