Noem v. Varilek Live Debate in Rapid City

On Friday, October 12, 2012, the Rapid City Journal hosted a debate between Congresswoman Kristi Noem and Democrat challenger Matt Varilek.

The debate was held at the University Center in Rapid City in the Lecture Room and various other rooms in the building as the main room was filled to capacity.

Congresswoman Noem countered Varilek’s repeated charge that she has a poor attendance record at committee meetings by explaining that she sits on no less than 12 committees in Washington and sometimes must make decisions on which committee meeting best serves the interests of South Dakotans. That sounds reasonable and proper to me and appeared to satisfy all present. Thanks Kristi, for honestly and intelligently working for your constituents in the most effective manner. I sincerely appreciate the time, effort and sacrifices you have made to serve us well while completing your university degree and truly still being a great Mom.

If you were unable to attend this event, here is all you need to know about Congresswoman Noem’s opponent.

Varilek is a Democrat and stands solidly on the Democrat Party platform which advocates homosexual marriage, an oxymoron, and a gross violation of the law of God, the abomination of abortion, advocating homosexuality, advocating free sexual conduct and government-provided condoms so that everybody can do what they want. This, despite his declaration that he is a Roman Catholic. Varilek’s Democrats have created a platform out of what God hates.

Varilek has stated that he is a supporter of Barack Obama, a president who believes in the redistribution of wealth, unbridled spending, reckless monetary policy, forced government healthcare and a feckless foreign policy that is ashamed of America’s exceptionalism. This is Varilek’s mentor.

The choice couldn’t be more clear. Kristi Noem deserves our support and our vote to continue representing us. She is indeed one of us.

Any discussion of the Farm Bill?

Yes Ralph, Varilek seeks to blame the failure to pass the Farm Bill on Kristi Noem. The truth is that she has been pressing for taking the Farm Bill to the House floor for a vote. But opposition from Eric Cantor and Boehner’s unwillingness to schedule the floor vote unless he is sure of its passage is the real reason. I don’t know if the votes are there for passage, but forcing a floor vorte would at least reveal the friends and foes. Kristi assures us that she will continue to push hard for a floor vote and there is no reason to doubt just that.

Dittos to all you said, Ed. Got to meet Kristi for the third time in Wall Friday night, and one thing that consistently impresses me about her is that she’s the “real deal”.
