Student Barred From Sports For Supporting Unborn

James Vignola is a freshman at a Catholic high school.

He ran in the Life Runners across-the-country relay to support life.  As a result, the Missouri High School Activities Association has banned him from participating in sports for one year.

The local newspaper ran a story which is catching quite a bit of attention.

This young man demonstrated his strength of character by choosing to run in this relay.  His motivation was clear… “I don’t like how they say it’s a woman’s right to kill a baby,” he said. “I want to offer support for the unborn who don’t have a say.”

His suspension is under an appeal.

God bless you, James Vignola!  You are a wonderful role model for the apathetic adults in America!

Gordon, HS activities associations have rules about participating in other athletic events during the official sports season. If you read the actual story (Oh look, here’s a link where people can see for themselves instead of your blurry photo: http://www.newstribune.com/news/2013/mar/21/helias-runner-loses-eligibility-prolife-relay/), you learn that the boy knew he was breaking state rules, which forbid participation in any non-sanctioned athletic event. He was not suspended for his political views; he was suspended for a rule violation that has nothing to do with viewpoint. The only point of debate here is whether the relay event constitutes a “competition” as defined under the Missouri sports rules.
