The Sin Of Silence

Doing nothing, saying nothing is not an option for believers.

Christ called us to be the “Salt of the earth”.  Time and time again the scriptures exhort us to action.  One of the best examples is the parable Jeus told about the good Samaritan:

A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.new ad
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

The clear message Christ was delivering is also found in James 4:

“to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

America is in serious trouble.  Low information and self serving voters have elevated men and women to office who do not share our  traditional American values.  That has happened because many have become like the Priest and the Levite, and simply turned their eyes away.

Duty to God and country cries out to us.  If we stand silently by while “others” fight for our freedom and our faith, we become co-conspirators with those who fight against it.  If we say and do nothing we are as guilty as those who beat, robbed and left for dead, the  man on his way to Jericho. Silence is not an option.

Defending our faith, freedom, family and friends requires something of us.  Are you speaking out, or are you sending another message with your silence?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a champion of faith and freedom.  He understood the sin of silence when he said,

“In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

This is one of my favorite biblical teachings. By “letting government do it” we are abrogating our own responsibility. Although we should not necessarily judge, the amount of money voluntarily given by some of our leaders is quite revealing.

Best of luck Mr. Howie. It’s good to have a field of choices and I commend you for fighting against the machine. May your voice be heard.
