Things Are Different

Many Christians are coming under the effect of the recession;

a recession which has gripped most of the western world. If we were totally honest about the current economic recession, it is probably more akin to a depression. In Genesis 26:2 we find that when famine (recession) hit the land; God instructed Isaac that he was not to go down to Egypt. Rather, he was to remain in the land where God had placed him. What is interesting about Isaac, not going down to Egypt, is that his decision to remain where he was contrasted strongly with what Isaac’s father Abram did, in Genesis 12:10 (NKJV). In this passage of scripture it says, ‘Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land.’

We need to remember that every circumstance we face is different. Even if you face a situation today that is similar to what you faced last year, it does not mean that you should respond to it in a similar manner. It is still important to seek God to find out exactly what he wants you to do this year. Do not be influenced by your past decisions, because God’s mercies are new every morning! God is still able to bless you, even though he may have allowed the rest of the western world to go through a famine.

When it comes to the world, God often deals with it nation by nation. When it comes to Christians, he deals with them as individuals. He provides them with an individual plan, designed to get them through the worst of the storms. So let me recommend that you read Psalm 91. Then you might recognize that God will not deal with you in the same manner as he deals with the world. And remember, you are an individual, who God deals with according to his will and not according to how he deals with other people.
