This story from a recent client visit is typical of how Care Net is impacting lives!
We recently had a young woman come in for a pregnancy test with her boyfriend. Her test was positive and her boyfriend wanted her to have an abortion. The client wanted to parent, but did not want to pressure the boyfriend and wanted their decision to be made together. After obtaining permission, our nurse brought the boyfriend back to join the client for options counseling. We strongly felt that he needed to know the options, risks and consequences of abortion as much as she did. The boyfriend was very quiet during this education and they left here without us knowing what their decision would be. However, they scheduled an ultrasound appointment prior to leaving.
When the couple came in for their ultrasound appointment, the client shared with us that as they left their previous appointment, the boyfriend told her that there was no way she was having an abortion! Once he was educated about the procedure and the risk, he changed his mind. They were both very excited about seeing the images of their baby on the ultrasound and even brought the client’s mom with them, to share in the joy of seeing their baby for the first time.
We were so excited to know that our teaching made a huge difference in the making of their decision. It is so important that men are being educated, as well as women, as to the risks of abortion, especially if they are pressuring or influencing the decisions of their girlfriends.
To see our clients change their minds upon receiving education is what inspires us to continue in the fight for life.
