Occupying The Seat Of Power

What would you do if you were the President?

Sitting in the Oval Office would be a privilege, honor and great responsibility.  It may be ( or many have been) the most powerful position on earth, but there are other positions of power that are very important.  Governor, Senator, Mayor, School Board, County Commission and others are positions which seem to dictate the way our nation goes and the way we live.  Who controls… or occupies… these seats of power determines whether life is good or bad.  Scripture tells us, “When the righteous rule, the people rejoice.  When the wicked rule, the people groan”.

But is political office the REAL center of power?

I can think of people who have changed the world, who never held a political office.  Today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comes to mind.  He was a man who changed the direction of America from OUTSIDE the political arena.  Political leaders actually had to follow HIS lead.  That may be what America needs today.

The political process seems to be controlled by power brokers who have an agenda that is contrary to the best interests of America.  At a local state and national level, men and women who compromise principle and justice are occupying seats of power.  Many conservative Christians are simply giving up.  But is it really time to give up?

Maybe, instead, it’s time to ask, “Is a political office really the seat of power?”.

The answer is “No.”

The real seat of power is occupied by almighty God, who “works all things according to the council of His own will.”  As Children of God , believers are “joint heirs” with Christ.  We have been given authority over all the power of the enemy.  We can do all things through Christ.  Nothing is impossible for us.  We are seated with Him in heavenly places.  We are Kings and Priests.  God himself has ordained and given us positions of authority and power with which to change the world. These are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.

We are not “elected” to these offices.  We are CHOSEN.  Are you one of these?  You may have been chosen, but refused to accept your office or responsibility.  Jonah was  chosen to be a prophet who refused to accept his mission.  His refusal left him in a big personal mess.  When he finally accepted his mission… his seat of power… he delivered a message that changed an entire nation.

One man, with a message from God transformed a nation.  Now, that is occupying the seat of power.

Maybe there IS hope for America!
