Move Over Mitt

The most recent polls show Mitt Romney clearly ahead of all opposition, with 21%.

The next in line are Paul and Huckabee with 11%, followed by Bush at 10%.  Others follow in close single digits.

In his “I will not run” announcement, it seemed clear that he didn’t believe he could win in the general election against the Democrat.  It would be surprising if he would withdraw from the race if he believed he could win.  So where does that appear to leave us and what does it really mean?

Follow the money.

In politics, winners need money.  Presidential politics requires big money.  In days and weeks to come, we will very likely see the “big money” donors lining up behind Jeb Bush.  Then, the race is on.  Very likely, Bush (who has the power of two former Presidents on his money-raising team) was taking big dollar donors away from Romney to the point Mitt saw the hand writing on the wall.  Without the big money, you don’t win.  With Romney now out of the way it clears the big money runway for Jeb Bush to achieve lift-off.  And lift off he will.  He will be the heir to most of the big money donors, and absent some kind of political earthquake, the Republican nominee.

All that sets the stage for another Republican loss in the 2016 Presidential election.  Conservatives and Christians will stay home and the Democrat will win the White House.

Then again, I could be wrong.  I hope so.
