The best explanation of how this process works, and why these votes are a BIG mistake, was given by Senator Rand Paul.
Republicans have joined Democrats with the misdirected assertion that NOT supporting a continuing resolution is “shutting down the government”, for which Republicans would receive the blame.
We gave the House and the Senate to Republicans. Why are the Democrats still in charge?
The truth is that Republicans who refuse to reject this notion are simply kicking the can down the road. No spending is cut, to waste is eliminated and nothing gets done. Debt continues to grow and spending continues to increase. Unless Republicans have some kind of epiphany, nothing will change when the next opportunity presents itself either. The “next” opportunity will come in December.
Don’t hold your breath.

I’m so glad we have “Republicans” representing South Dakota, and a “Republican” majority in congress, aren’t you? Otherwise, this $18 trillion in debt and out-of-control spending would just continue, if it weren’t for the “Republicans” putting a stop to it, wouldn’t it?
