Always By Our Side

Last evening my wife and I gathered with a few first cousins.

We celebrated a birthday. The thought struck me while visiting the importance of family. Family is comfortable and necessary. In fact some day in this life it could be all that we have.

I was reminded of that in reading Hebrews 13:5 where Paul shares God’s message that “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. That is true comfort.

This past week I saw the ugly face of greed up close and personal. It was not pleasant. It reminded me of Matthew 6:20 where Christ tells us to “store up treasures in Heaven not on earth”. If God sees us with the right priorities he will add to our life. Not only what we need (vs.32-33) but more as well.

Seeking God’s Kingdom and the presence of Jesus in our life is what gives comfort. In some respects our Heavenly Father is like a warm fire on a cold winter night.

I truly believe those of us who call ourselves devout Christians were not meant for this world. We seek here that which is divine and then finding the best fruit we return to our Heavenly home. In a sense earth is like a time share to be visited and enjoyed. Real ownership for us lies elsewhere. That place is where God will be in a more complete way ALWAYS BY OUR SIDE as He gives us a foretaste of here on earth.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Our Heavenly Father will never forsake those who faithfully follow Him.

DEVOTIONAL VERSE FOR TODAY: Hebrews 13:6 “God always by our side”.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord thank you for being always by my side.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT:

  1. Who can you count on to be always by your side?
  2. How has God shown that He will never forsake you?
  3. What is the best fruit earth has to offer?
  4. What are your priorities?
