BUT… NOT it’s 45th Vice President.

Mike Pence is actually the 48th Vice President.

You might enjoy looking at the list compiled on Wikipedia.  As I reviewed the list, I was surprised at the number of times the office of Vice President was left vacant for  period of time.

Fourteen Vice Presidents have become President.  Nine of those became President as the result of their predecessor’s death or resignation.

Only two VPs have served temporarily as President, while the sitting President was unable to discharge those duties.  They were George H.W. Bush on July 13, 1985 and Dick Cheney on June 29, 2002 and July 21, 2007.

Only five have been elected as President.
