Surviving Your Government

Are you a winner or a loser?

I don’t mean, in life, generally.  I mean, has government MADE you one or the other?  If government has chosen to make you a winner, this article is not for you.

Millions of Americans worked their entire lives, only to see their retirement nest egg disappear at the fall of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.  Businesses and family farms were forced out of business because of Dodd Frank regulations.  In addition to the Federal government, local governments place even more burdens on families and businesses that brand them as “losers”.

I know.  I am one of them.  Because of government over-reach and political compromise by Republican and Democrat politicians at a Federal level, my wife and I saw millions of dollars of our life work literally disappear overnight.  Fortunately, we have been able to sacrificially liquidate many of our holdings and salvage some of our assets.  Millions of other Americans have not been so fortunate.

Locally, bureaucrats have hamstrung our efforts to improve one parcel of well-located real estate we own, by placing zoning restrictions that defy common sense.  Many people have been interested in this property, but simply go away after trying to work with the city planning department.  In addition to “zoning” restrictions, the city has developed what they call an “overlay” of this area, which places even further restricts the viability of the property.  In short, they have control over my property (while I continue to pay the taxes) to such an extent that I have been unable to use or sell it.

That is an abbreviated version of what my government has done to me, and millions of others in this “land of the free and home of the brave.”  (Where politicians are free to create winners and losers, and only the brave survive).  I am determined to move ahead and make a new plan.  Like the other millions of Americans in similar circumstances, I will rise above the government-inflicted failures and succeed.  I choose to be neither a winner or a loser.  I choose to be a survivor.

Just to be clear, our government is not fundamentally responsible.  It is the PEOPLE we elected to run the government.  Their mismanagement and self-promoting agendas have brought us to this.  THEY are responsible.  THEY need to be replaced.  It’s pretty easy to identify the good ones we should keep.  The rest should be thrown out of office.  Every one of them.

Stories like mine are not at all unusual.  It is what propelled Donald Trump into the White House.  Americans have had more than their fill of Democrat and Republican politicians at a Federal, State and Local level who insist on making their lives increasingly more difficult.

I didn’t like Trump very much.  Even so, I voted for him.  What I have seen thus far gives me hope that he actually may be effective in turning our country in the right direction.  I hope so.  I don’t think he is the “perfect President”, but I am willing to give him some wiggle room and some time to make things better.

God speed, President Trump.
