Let’s Keep The National Anthem

When is enough, enough?

Now, a group wants to eliminate our National Anthem.

Wikipedia describes the origin of the song:

The lyrics come from “Defence of Fort M’Henry”,[2] a poem written on September 14, 1814, by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large American flag, the Star-Spangled Banner, flying triumphantly above the fort during the American victory.

The group clamoring for the removal of the Star-Spangled Banner claim that it is a racist song.  This claim references the third (and rarely sung) third verse.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
 That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
 A home and a country, should leave us no more?
 Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
 No refuge could save the hireling and slave
 From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
 And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
 O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

In this day of over-the-top political correctness, a case might be made against anything, anywhere at anytime by simple asserting the claim that it is somehow “racist”.  Enough, already!  We have become a society where we call wrong right, and right wrong.  In Isaiah 5:20 we are warned about such a time:

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;”

Personally, I will continue to stand and remove my hat for the National Anthem, and thank every veteran for their sacrifice and service to our great country.  I will continue to esteem the Godly truth upon which this Nation was founded: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Let’s keep our National Anthem… and return to sanity.
