Increasing the debt ceiling isn’t the only answer.

The “horror” of a government shutdown provides cover for politicians of every stripe  to increase spending.  It’s a never ending game.  The party in power (whichever it is) unfailingly supports increasing the debt ceiling.  The opposition party resists it, for one reason or another.  The roles reverse when the seats of power change hands.

All of this gamesmanship and bloating debt could be ended.  The solution isn’t really a secret.  It’s just that no one wants to seriously consider it.

CUT SPENDING!

A good first step would be to CAP spending at current levels, with clearly written follow-up legislation to CUT spending.  But where??  There are plenty of places to cut spending.

In 2010, the Heritage Foundation issued a report on how to cut $343 BILLION dollars.  That could add up to some serious savings over the course of  a few years.  In the past 8 years, spending has increased and potential cuts could be even larger if Congress got serious about it.  Another spending cut of over $100 BILLION (per year) could be found by ending welfare/government handouts to illegal immigrants.

Spending cuts of $400-$500 BILLION dollars a year could solve a lot of problems in a short time.

It’s the “Secret Solution” nobody wants to talk about.
