Is Raising the Debt Ceiling “Reasonable” ?

Last evening Brian Williams of the Nightly News with Brian Williams said that “reasonable people” believe that the debt ceiling must be raised. Either he is wrong or I am unreasonable.

Raising the debt ceiling is neither reasonable nor necessary to avoid default of the US Government. Our government is addicted to spending much like an alcoholic is addicted to drinking. Would a reasonable treatment plan for alcohol addiction include the continued abuse of alcohol?

US Government default is not a certainty if the debt ceiling is not raised. Proper management of US Government revenues, real and meaningful spending cuts and tax reform will lead us out of this addictive cycle of abuse.

Scrutiny of the plans before us currently reveals that proposed spending cuts are not nearly enough to resolve either the short or long term problem. Spending cuts that are phased in over 10 years while more spending is authorized immediately is not a sound solution.

The outcry for compromise is just a convenient complaint that enables further abuse of spending, spending and more spending.

We did not elect conservative candidates in 2010 to compromise but to begin the resolution of the unbridled growth of government and unsustainable government spending.

If the US Government defaults it will be by the will of the President, not by the refusal to raise the debt ceiling.
