Meet Stephanie Strong, SD Republican Candidate for US Congress

The buzz about in South Dakota Republican politics is the entrance of Stephanie Strong as a Republican challenger for the lone South Dakota Congressional seat in the US House of Representatives.

The Pierre-born Rapid City businesswoman has extensive small business experience but is a political newcomer.

I had the pleasure of speaking with her yesterday and found her to be a commited conservative who is mightily concerned about our country and has decided to be silent no longer.

She believes in:

  • limited Constitutional government;

  • the vigorous defense of our Constitutional rights;

  • debt reduction by reducing spending, not raising taxes;

  • reduction in government interference in business through excessive regulation;

  • a strong military;

  • traditional Judeo-Christian values;

  • US energy independence.

She also believes that Congresswoman Kristi Noem’s Congressional voting record has been disappointing on some key issues. Specifically mentioned was Mrs. Noem’s Congressional votes to increase the debt ceiling, approve the Patriot Act with its controversial arrest and detention powers of US Citizens and her support of ethanol subsidies.

I was impressed by Stephanie’s sincerity, energy and commitment and her courage to take on the rigors of a statewide campaign as a political newcomer.

We will watch with great interest her rise to serve the people of South Dakota.

    Since I first read this blog, I have been watching and have made a number of attempts to locate and contact Ms. Strong, all to no avail.

    I note from the infromation put out by the Secretary of State she will not be in the Primary in June.

    My thought is that she should pursue getting on the Ballot as an Independent. She would need to do it as an Independent and would need to have a Petition signed by about 3,200-3,300 registered voters.

    My disgust with Kristi Noem is to ditto Mr. Velder’s comments, as the seven issues listed as objectives of Ms. Strong are identical to the issues that are of a deep concern for me and a good number of my close friends.

    It is sp pressing to me that I have considered circulating Petitions for my spot on the Ballot. I believe it would be impossible since I have very few resources with which to pursue such an undertaking.

    However, if Ms. Strong would seek to get on the Ballot, I would go all in to help get the required signatures and would vigorously promote her in every manner, including changing my registration to Independent.

    This is to invite some comments and an update as to Ms. Strong’s position.

    Respectfully,

    AN OPEN LETTER TO REPRESENTATIVE KRISTI NOEM – February 2012
    Lt. Col. Kenneth Keskel, USAF has reminded us in his excellent History of the Oath that the first law of the United States of America, enacted in the first session of the first Congress on 1 June 1789, was statute 1, chapter 1: an act to regulate the time and manner of administering certain oaths, which established the oath required by civil and military officials to support the Constitution. Our Founders believed this was absolutely vital to securing the new Constitution. President Washington, who signed the first law, added the words “so help me God” to emphasis the strongest possible moral and religious implications tied to the Oath of Office!
    Today’s Congress, however, seems to be morally challenged when it comes to whether a bill is Constitutional or not. One would expect a Congresswoman Pelosi, for example, who has publicly stated her contempt for our Constitution, would vote for bills such as Obamacare or funding for the United Nations.
    But Representative Noem promised to be different. She has recently been criticized for her hypocrisy in campaigning one way, then voting for the status quo. [See Rapid City Journal.] Voters remember her campaign ads about how she would work to stop the spending and the out of control national debt. [Her son even asked where he was going to get the $42,000 that was his portion of the national debt? Now, that number has grown to $49,000 partly as a result of his mother’s vote: see below:]

    Rep. Noem’s vote on August 1, 2011 raised the debt ceiling and allowed government spending to exceed income by $1.5 trillion. President Obama gladly accepted the money! Her reasoning was – this vote will “help” South Dakota. The grim reality is that Congress has given the President the authority to increase spending on the very programs she voted against, such as defunding Obamacare, EPA, Planned Parenthood and others. Most of these programs have no Constitutional authority!

    The truth is he will just keep doing this until Congress closes the purse strings. This is why we elected her! But, now that she has caved in this vote, what happens when the next debt ceiling vote comes up? She (and all the other Republicans who joined her) has no standing and no backbone! This same thing applies to all her other votes. Please send this letter with her voting record to everyone you can and ask their help to convince Rep. Noem to obey her oath of office!

    Sincerely, Gary Velder, Newell, SD 57760
