Pennington County Republicans Ask To Be Removed From Lawsuit

The new leadership of the Pennington County Republicans have asked House Speaker Brian Gosch to remove them from the lawsuit against Stephanie Strong.

I have been personally assured that Gosch WILL remove the Pennington County Republican Party’s name as a plaintiff on the pending motion.

Unfortunately, Gosch and Frankenstein (Secretary of the State Republican Party) plan to pursue this lawsuit against their fellow Republican.

In case you haven’t followed it closely, Stephanie Strong brought an action when Gosch notarized his own petitions.  Many believe that was a clear violation of the law.  After eight… yes eight judges recused themselves and the judicial football had been fumbled by what some would call “UN-due process”, the action against Gosch was dismissed by the court.

Gosch then picked up a legal stick with which to beat Strong for challenging him.  His law suit against Strong is seen as punishment and an attempt to make an “example” of her.

Sara Frankenstein is the attorney representing Gosch in his action to recover legal expense from Strong.  That’s interesting, since it was no secret Frankenstein was taking the legal action on a pro-bono basis.  Conservatives across the state see this as nothing more than a vindictive move to harass Strong for daring to hold Gosch accountable to the rule of law.

The Republican leadership in the House demonstrated this kind of tactic in the last session when they threw conservatives out of caucus and off committee assignment.  They also breached the confidentiality of the Legislative Research Council in an attempt to silence and intimidate conservative Legislators.

The new Pennington County Republican Party leadership team has taken an important first step in reversing the decision of past leadership and withdrawing from the Gosch law suit.  They are working to unify the party and bring disenfranchised conservatives back.

Even with this first step, many conservatives are skeptical.  They continue to wonder how a state party official and the Speaker of the House can be pursuing a lawsuit against a conservative Republican while the new party leadership at both state and local levels are preaching unity.
