Christianity And American Government

President John Quincy Adams understood the importance of including God in American government.

“The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”

He didn’t say that including God in government was a good idea. He said it was the HIGHEST GLORY of web.ad97jeepthe American revolution. Those who suggest that America is “not a Christian nation” are trying to CHANGE America into something it was never intended to be.

Adams knew that it was not possible to remove the principles of Christianity from American government without destroying the very foundations of freedom gained by the revolution. When he spoke of the “indissoluble” connection, he was saying clearly that our government MUST include the principles of God.

There is no “wall of separation”. There is, rather, an interdependence between God and government. To remove the principles of Christianity from American government is to insure it’s failure.

Americans are free from a “state sponsored church”. That is a very good thing. John Quincy Adams knew, however, that the principles of Christianity are an essential part of the survival of America as a nation of freedom.

Where we remove God from government, we fail. Where we include God in government we will succeed.
