A Balanced Budget Can Be BAD

How can it be BAD to balance a government budget?

Some politicians “balance” the budget with smoke and mirrors.  It allows them to proclaim fiscal responsibility while, behind the scenes, they are busy really growing government.

One way these “balanced” budgets are put together is by INCREASING TAXES.  They don’t always call it a tax increase.  They prefer words that camouflage the real mission.  Words and phrases like “revenue enhancements” and  “user fees”.  They began to squirm in their seats when someone makes the assertion that any means by which government takes money from the pockets of the people is taxation.

Another method used to “balance” the budget is to take money from a fund designated for a specific purpose, and put it in the general spending fund.  Congress has used this slight of hand with Social Security money until Social Security is anything but secure.

Living within your means is easy when you have unlimited means.  As long as these “I always balanced the budget” politicians have access to more money they can keep growing government and claim to balance the budget.  Always at YOUR expense.

The true test of a fiscal conservative isn’t whether he/she “balanced the budget”.  The true test is HOW they did it.  If government continued to grow, and taxes continued to increase, their “balanced budget” only made things worse for families they were supposed to be serving.

It is time to STOP government growth, CUT government spending and REDUCE taxes!  That would be REAL balance!
