Set Your GPS

Finding our way to heaven in some ways is very similar to setting a GPS to find a location here on planet earth. This summer I toke a trip to Minneapolis and I didn’t exactly follow the GPS and immediately became lost in the suburbs and until I returned to it (re-calculating my path it informed me) I would remain lost.

God gives us a form of GPS in His Word and if we go a separate way our being lost will be far worse than a few minutes spent in some suburbs. In fact throughout time He has shared with us how to travel the ‘highway to heaven’ once a popular TV show.

We are told first of all in Prov. 16:17 that it is a holy way and requires our departing from evil to save our soul. Unlike an Interstate Highway where rest stops allow you a break if you intentionally pull off the road, I suspect standing before God someday and saying you needed to pull out of your journey of faith for a little time of evil in your life would not get you very far. That is not to say that like with Israel (Isaiah 11:16) that a lapse of judgment as in my city driving does not allow for a return to the right way. In fact in Isaiah 35:8-10  this way of holiness is described and all we need to do is follow the Gospel call (Isaiah 40:3) preparing the roadbed for the return of Christ not only for ourselves but others as well.

The problem is that we as individuals and societies are not always willing to do what it takes which is to follow Christ and Christ alone (John 14:6-see related blog) and by our not doing so finding ourselves on the wrong path in life leading to destruction as Christ Himself proclaimed in Mt. 7:13-14. Today if we have not already done so we need to SET OUR GPS on Christ and follow His every instruction.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: The highway to heaven offers hope to all the spiritual heirs who heed its message.

DEVOTIONAL VERSE FOR TODAY: Mt. 7:14 “two destinies”.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord help me to remain on the straight and narrow.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT:

1. Which highway are you traveling?

2. Are you using God’s Word as your GPS?

3. Are you helping prepare the way for Christ’s return?

4. How do you re-program your GPS leading to salvation?
