Rapid City Police Attack Neighborhood

About 20 off duty police employees invaded a North Rapid neighborhood yesterday.

Actually, there were no patrol cars in sight.  These off duty police department employees were on a mission of community service… on their own time.  They showed up ready to work, and help improve the city they serve.

They showed up with weed whackers, lawn mowers, chain saws and trailers to help clean up a property recently gifted to Care Net Pregnancy Resource Center.  Care Net is a ministry which helps women in crisis pregnancies and provides free ultra sounds and pregnancy testing.  The two rental properties in North Rapid City were given to Care Net by a very generous benefactor.  That’s the good news.  The not-so-good news is that they were in very poor condition, and requires thousands of dollars in clean up and repair before they can be rented and provide Adincome to assist the ministry mission.  The volunteer help from the Rapid City Police Department was a welcome effort.

Despite the heat of about 101 degrees, these great people attacked the property with a vengeance.  Their trailer was quickly filled with garbage, tree limbs and yard trimmings.  The scrap sheet rock and construction debris was removed from the renovation that is in progress.  There were also plenty of smile to go around.

Stacey Wollman, the CEO of Care Net expressed her gratitude for the exceptional effort from these volunteers, ” A few people can accomplish a lot when they join together to help.  We are very grateful to the Police Department for their assistance today and their service every day to our community.”  She was quick to add that there is still much to be done.  More volunteers and financial assistance is needed to complete the work necessary to renovate the property.

With the recent revelations about Planned Parenthood marketing body parts of aborted children for profit, Wollman said there is an increased need to help women who are dealing with the emotional trauma of previous abortions.  This adds to the already big job of assisting expectant mothers in crisis and providing other services on a very limited budget.

The Rapid City Police Department deserves a BIG “thank you” for their willingness to help!!
