Does The World Still Have Need Of Us?

Each day as I watch the world around me…

… and see how the Christian voice is stifled (if allowed to speak at all) I ask myself the question if the world still  needs those of us committed to our faith. At that point inevitably I am brought back to my senses realizing the answer to the question is “yes, now more than ever”. Today it was a hotel desk clerk who bravely spoke out her conviction and faith in the presence of others who helped me to realize this fact.

This awakening experience reminded me of 1 Peter 4:11 where we are told “if anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God”. Oracles are revelations or wise sayings that meet the test of truth as this passage in Peter would have us understand. Sharing God’s Word and doing so boldly is one way that we serve God to a hurting world that often does not even realize it is in need of us or of this truth which God would have us all know.

The 10 Commandments given to Moses and the people of Israel we are told in Acts 7:38 were oracles. They were, still are and always will be revelations direct from God and should be spoken and defended by us at every opportunity.

No matter what situation we be in we must always show our faith and not be afraid. In fact as difficult as it may be we should rejoice even in affliction as it allows us to share in the fellowship of the Messiah’s sufferings. DOES THE WORLD STILL HAVE NEED OF US? Most certainly yes!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: The oracles of God are opportunities to offer the Word of God to others.

DEVOTIONAL VERSE FOR TODAY: 1 Peter 4:11 “oracles are the truth of God’s Word”.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord strengthen me to speak boldly Your Word.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT:

  1. Does the world still need the voice of Christians and if so why?
  2. Can Christianity become so watered down that it’s voice is barely more than a whisper?
  3. Are you able to share your faith boldly?
  4. Are you able to rejoice in affliction?

After Christ’s ascension the Apostles went about teaching, healing and baptizing. They met strong resistance from the Sanhedrin and those in authority. In Acts Chapter 5 Peter was warned not to teach of Jesus Christ and said: “We must obey God rather than men” In Chapter 7 of Acts, again the Sanhedrin arrest Stephen and tell him the same thing – stop teaching of Jesus Christ. Stephen gave the same reply as Peter and was dragged out to be stoned. What great faith, what an example these apostles were. We would do well to follow their example and never hesitate to teach of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thanks Gary for your article
