I’m no fan of Hillary Clinton.

That said, she took Donald Trump to the woodshed in the first debate.

She came out well prepared and almost immediately put him on the defense.  He missed opportunities to turn the table on her, and let her dominate with her version of the “facts”.

Trump was embarrassingly weak on facts and detail.  He was vague and unspecific.  With so much ammunition available in Clinton history, he used almost none of it.  It seemed reminiscent of Mitt Romney’s unwillingness to challenge Obama.  In case you have forgotten, he lost the election.

In addition to Trump’s unpreparedness and Clinton’s mastery of the issues and the stage, the moderator crafted questions designed to weaken Trump while leaving Clinton untouched.

Trump’s performance made me again wish the Republicans had nominated someone able to adequately debate Clinton.  This debate was little more than a ninety minute Hillary Clinton show.

I’ll say again, I am no fan of Hillary Clinton.  It would be tragic for America if she wins this election.  I am hopeful that this debate is not a reflection of how the election turns out, because by any measure…

… Hillary Clinton won.
