Bravery May Be More Mental Than Physical

As they grow older, veterans usually grow wiser in their knowledge of military history.  Forwarding emails to each other is considered a well-spent pastime.  One US Army veteran from Rapid City, South Dakota, reminded me of my very first post about this time in January back in 2011.

It dealt with climbing cell towers and our instinctual fear of heights.  The new video shows a tower about 250 feet less than the earlier one, but the words seem just as relevant:

“Most of us will never know how brave we are. Special Forces, Green Berets, Rangers, SEALS—what makes them tick, beyond rigorous training and endurance?  Would we survive the cut?  Here is a simple test to give us a glimpse of how we’d fare.

Climb the tower in the short video, which shows a job some people actually have.  Physically, there isn’t any more danger than climbing a step ladder in your garage.  But there is a bravery and fear factor that is entirely mental.”

Climb the tower now . . .
