I Don’t Wear A Coronavirus Mask

Judge me, if you must.

If you feel the need to wear a mask, that’s fine with me. I’m just not willing to accept any projection of guilt on my part for not wearing one.

I will stop short (JUST short) of calling B.S. Every projection and model that predicted mass disaster has been wrong. Significantly wrong. I can hear the screaming response even now, “It’s because our mitigation efforts have been successful“. OK. There is certainly nothing wrong with SOME mitigation efforts. I’m just not buying the whole “Must close everything” mitigation. It has been over kill, many times over. Shutting down the entire American economy and spending Trillions of dollars that we don’t have was a bridge to far by any measure.

The nearly unreported truth is that, even though this is a highly contagious virus, the recovery rate is over 99%. Here is one report:

“What is the mortality rate of the new coronavirus?
It is probably about or a bit less than 1%.
Much higher figures have been flying about, but the UK’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, is one of those who believes it will prove to be 1% or lower. The World Health Organization’s director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, talked of 3.4%, but his figure was calculated by dividing the number of deaths by the number of officially confirmed cases. We know there are many more mild cases that do not get to hospital and are not being counted, which would bring the mortality rate significantly down.

Deaths are highest in the elderly, with very low rates among younger people, although medical staff who treat patients and get exposed to a lot of virus are thought to be more at risk. But even among the over-80s, 90% will recover.”

Now, after all of the inaccurate and exaggerated “Models” of the impact of this virus, there is a NEW battle cry. “A second wave is coming“. This, as a justification to keep the country closed and further strangle the economy. Personally, I have had more than enough.

If you want to wear a mask to protect yourself from me and others, go for it. I feel no compelling need to wear a mask to protect myself from you. I will be respectful of social distancing from those who want it, and folks who are in a high risk category, but I am not ready to buy or wear a mask.

It’s time to re-open our country.
