An Open Letter to South Dakota’s Legislators and Governor

Just the FactsGovernor Daugaard claims to be conservative. Nearly all the South Dakota legislators, especially the Republicans, claim to be conservative.

But what have they collectively actually done?

We have in place a South Dakota Republican Party Platform, a decidedly conservative document. They all nod their heads and will tell you they support the platform.

But what have they collectively actually done?

Let’s just take a quick look at what a REAL conservative governor and a REAL conservative legislature has actually done in the state of Oklahoma.

  • Oklahoma is the only state in which Obama did not win even one county in 2012.

  • Oklahoma passed HB1330 to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. Washington along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake. Oklahoma passed it anyway.

  • Oklahoma passed HB1804 to incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from unless they want to get a green card and become an American citizen. Washington along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake. Oklahoma passed it anyway.

  • Oklahoma passed SB1102 to include DNA samples from any and all illegal’s to the Oklahoma database, for criminal investigative purposes. Pelosi said it was unconstitutional. Oklahoma passed it anyway.

  • Oklahoma passed HJR1003 that declared Oklahoma as a Sovereign state, not subject to Federal Government directives. They joined with Texas, Montana and Utah as the only states to do so. Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi and Florida are likely to join with them soon.

  • Oklahoma passed a law that ALL drivers license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no other language. They have been called racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL of the road signs are in English only. If you want to drive in Oklahoma, you must read and write English.

I’m thinking that our South Dakota Republican conservatives aren’t nearly as conservative as they say they are.

    Ed,
Would love to see a follow up piece of Conservative legislation that was brought in SD, that failed in this supposed super majority “Republican” legislature. Links to the legislation also so people can see who voted to kill such bills.

From what I have seen, many of these politicians hate to have their voting records brought to the attention of the voters. The voters have a right to know how these legislators have been representing them.
