Detroit Falls Financially

If you have been watching, Detroit isn’t the only city in America to declare bankruptcy.

Detroit joins over half a dozen other city governments who have outspent their resources.  Over the past few years, this city has lost about half of its population.  In 1959 the city was about 1.8 million people.  Today the population is around 700,000.

While Detroit isn’t the first, it is the largest city to take this course of action.  Even so, the Detroit bankruptcy isn’t the REAL news.  What Americans should be asking is, “How financially sound is OUR city or state?”.

Many cities and states boast a “balanced budget”.  That sounds great, but can you name one city or state that does not use FEDERAL dollars to “balance” their budget?

Politicians in the state of South Dakota are quick to tell you they have “balanced the budget”.  What they are not as quick to tell you is that the state is leading the way in using FEDERAL dollars in that “balancing” process.

It begs the question, “what will happen when the Federal check bounces, or the dollars don’t come?”  Programs and spending will have to be slashed, and financial disaster could well be in the future of other cities and states who rely on money from Uncle Sam to pay their bills.

Is Detroit leading the way for the “new America”?
