ObamaCare… “Please Wait”

My wife, Trish, just had back surgery.

It required a two week wait, but only because of an intervening critical appointment elsewhere.  Had she cancelled that appointment she would have had to wait about a week.  The additional elected delay proved increasingly painful as her resistance to pain killers escalated and the pain became progressively worse, pretty close to unbearable.  She was miserable.  Fortunately, the operation appears to have been quite  web.ad03durangosuccessful.  What if she had the good fortune of being in one of the many countries that have excellent health care for everyone as part of their basic right?  Those would be the countries that we are trying to emulate with Obamacare. The best that I have found so far is Canada, which is much better than England.  I invite anyone to post results from any other country. Here is the Canadian result:
“In general, as noted in the Commonwealth surveys that opened the second decade of the 21st century, the Canadian patient may wait as little as four weeks to be scheduled for a back or neck surgery, with a maximum time of a little less than three months; the U.S. patient can get services in considerably less time, their average wait span being approximately 20.5 days.
Thus, the wait times for spinal surgeries are considerably less in the United States than in Canada, with the added advantage that, as yet, the “special needs” consideration that is plaguing so many Canadian patients in chronic back and neck pain does not exist in America.  So, in the United States, a grandmother with a condition in advanced stages would have the same chance to obtain neck and back surgical treatment that a younger individual would have.”

Wait times for surgeries of almost any stripe are a major complaint in both the United States and Canadian health care systems, yet the U.S. can boast a slight advantage over Canada in elective or less-than-fundamental surgeries.

I find it fascinating that in Canada you can undergo intense pain for nearly three months while awaiting back surgery and a grandmother does not have the same opportunity for an operation as does a young person. Apparently grandmothers do not suffer as much? I suppose when the pain is unbearable with no potential relief in sight they can get “end of life” counseling. Nevertheless, the U.S.can boast a “slight advantage” over Canada. Wow.

My challenge in the article was real. Please show me research on the results of other health care systems that are purportedly so much better than ours. We certainly can and should emulate systems that are better if we can find them.
