Facing the New Year with Confidence

A message of hope, inspiration and challenge.

America’s only hope for restoration is for the hearts of men, women and children to turn their hearts toward God. This Sunday message is one that is good for every day of the week.

Three hundred sixty-five times the scriptures tell us not to fear. (that’s enough for every day of the year). Often the reason given for our not fearing is quite simple. God says, “For I am with you.”

In Exodus 3 Moses met God at a burning bush that was not consumed. When God told him He was sending him to bring His people out of Egypt, Moses panicked and replied, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” God’s reply was, “I will certainly be with you.”

When God called Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, He said, in Joshua 1:5, “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” He went on in verse 9, “Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

In Isaiah 43:1-5, God spoke to the Israelites, “Fear not, for I have redeemed web.ad08chevyyou; I have called you by your name, you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers , they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned. . . Fear not for I am with you.”

In Philippians 3 the Apostle Paul encourages us not to be anxious but rather look to God in prayer and thanksgiving. Then in verse 13 he said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

In II Corinthians 12 Paul shares regarding his difficulties. Three times he had asked God to help Him. God’s response in verse 9 was mind-boggling. “My grace is sufficient for you; for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Paul responded, “therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak then I am strong.”

As we face the New Year, as Christians, we are not alone. God is with us. He goes before us. Standing by myself, I have every reason to be afraid. But I am not alone. God is with me. That’s a central part of the Christmas message. “Behold the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel which is translated, ‘God with us.’”

If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, today would be a GREAT day to begin! It’s easy:

A. Admit you are a sinner.

B. Believe that Jesus died to purchase forgiveness for your sins.

C. Confess Jesus as your savior.

Now… you are saved. Your new life has BEGUN. Find a Bible believing, Gospel preaching church. Read your Bible and pray (talk to God). May God bless you as you trust and obey Him in everything you do!

The thing is, when you do things you don’t just build confidence in your ability to handle different situations. You also experience progressive desensitization. What that means is that situations – like for example public speaking or maybe just showing your latest blogpost to an audience out there – that made you feel all shaky become more and more normal in your life. It is not longer something you psyche yourself up to do. It just becomes normal. Like tying your shoes, hanging out with your friends or taking a shower.
