Will Strong Families or Equal Pay Better Restore America?

stay-at-home-moms“More women staying home with young kids” the headlines now proclaim across the country.  Just plug the phrase into any search engine.  Decades of social engineering finally are being reversed.  Divorces and sulking Adam Lanza-type children will hopefully become less common.

Upscale material symbols like fancy homes and cars aren’t a guaranteed ticket to the good life.  Mainstream Americans are realizing that strong families don’t require double incomes.  Attentive parental care requires a lot more commitment.   Children need parental influence more than anything else.  Henry David Thoreau has perhaps supplied the underlying principle:  “That man is richest whose pleasures are the cheapest.”

Go to any earlier graduating class at colleges like Bryn Mawr and Vassar to find educated young women who practiced their own version of the arranged marriage, seeking out men with enough character to secure income for the whole family.   No ED drugs were needed by breadwinners, nor was sexual preference an issue.

Western governments today attempt to manage all aspects of human life through godless social engineering.  Rent control, minimum wage, equal pay–an army of bureaucrats and politicians are trying to forge a new humanitarian utopia.  Truth be told, strong families will provide a surer renewal of American society than equal pay ever will.
