Fire Shinseki, Hire Romney

Obama has plenty of good options to clean up the VA mess.

He first needs to fire Shinseki.  How many veterans need to die before Obama actually DOES something?

The argument fielded even by some Republicans is that replacing Shinseki would only be “starting over” with someone who is inexperienced.  “Starting over” might be the best thing for everyone.  And that is really a weak argument, anyway.  Better inexperienced than incompetent.  BUT… there is plenty of talent in America.  A few names come to my mind.

How about Mitt Romney?  Whether you like or dislike his politics, he is a man who gets things done.  Or maybe Herman Cain.  He has plenty of administrative experience.  Dr. Ben Carson might be an interesting option.  He certainly doesn’t lack for talent, and isn’t afraid to be politically incorrect.  Colin Powell or Condoleezza Rice would restore credibility and accountability to the VA.

The list could continue ad nauseam.  The point is, there is not a shortage of competent, talented people who could step in and do the job.  And the position doesn’t have to be about politics… but if it were, Obama should put a Republican in charge so he would have someone to “blame” if things didn’t go well.

The position should really be about policy,  administration and accountability.  Shinseki has failed on all three counts.  It’s time to move on and fix the problems.  A competent President would have already made the change.

But then…
