This day has come to be recognized as a day when bad things happen.

I’m not superstitious, but I can’t help but wonder if something bad will happen today.

After all, the Legislature is in session in South Dakota and Congress is hard at work in D.C.

It’s almost like the movie Groundhog’s Day, where EVERY day has become Friday the 13th in America.  The Democrat leadership has gone off the deep end, and Republican leadership has followed.  It reminds me of a scene from another movie, Thelma and Louise, where they flew off the cliff.  It wouldn’t be so bad, but for the fact it ISN”T the leadership in the front seat… it’s the American public.  Really, it’s our very freedom.

Republican leadership tells us everything will be OK if we just put them in charge.  Sorry, but I am no longer buying that line.  My expectation is that they will give us just enough to keep us “on the farm”, but not enough to turn the tide.  The things that are important to me, and most other Americans are not high priorities.  Getting elected (and re-elected) has become job number one.  Decisions are made with re-election consequences in mind rather than what is best for the country.

Political expedience has taken precedence over principle.  The common justification is “We have to COMPROMISE good so we will be in a position to DO good.”  The problem with that philosophy is that they  just never quite get there… and if  they do, they find themselves too compromised to do the right thing.  In the meantime, the fear of more bad things is a wonderful tool with which to keep the electorate in line.  They (the establishment) control the money, the power and the influence.  It will take something catastrophic to awaken voters and spur them to action.  In fact, it may already be too late.  It appears certain that bad things are in store for our country.  A catastrophic event will either seal our fate or cause us to turn in the right direction.

For better or worse… it’s Friday the 13th in America.
