Take what you want in life… then pay for it.
Annette Bosworth chose to take on the political establishment. In South Dakota, that comes with a price.
Today she faces sentencing on 12 felony convictions resulting from what most people see as
common place, minor petition violations. The maximum punishment could be as much as 24 years in prison and $48,000.00 in fines. Jackley has signaled that he may recommend jail time as part of the sentence.
This unbelievable consequence comes at the hands of Attorney General, Marty Jackley and other political adversaries of Bosworth.
Two things that are striking about this case are the blatantly obvious over-prosecution of Bosworth by Jackley, and Jackley’s unwillingness to pursue others who have been accused of the exact same petition infractions… even though complaints have been filed with both Jackley’s office and the Secretary of State.
Jackley has openly disclosed that he is running for Governor. Maybe he thinks this case is a feather in his cap or a notch on his pistol that will enhance his prospects to climb the political ladder. He may be mistaken. Even those who were not Bosworth supporters see Jackley’s actions as political retribution, bullying and abuse of prosecutorial power. One can only wonder how vindictive and vengeful he would be in a higher office.
Marty Jackley chose to misuse the authority given him as Attorney General.
The price he will pay is yet to be determined.
