The latest report indicates that police are “investigating” the two players. 

 

Two high school football players should be in jail.  The intentional attack on a football referee by two players is inexcusable.  These players should be criminally charged.

Both players have been suspended from the team and expelled from their high school.  That certainly seems appropriate, but should not be the end of this attack.  The latest report indicates that police are “investigating” the two players.  Seriously, the video should be all the investigation needed to charge these players with a crime.  Further “investigation” could follow.

Several excuses have been offered for this misbehavior.  The referee allegedly used racial slurs and made several bad calls during the game.  An assistant coach allegedly told players the ref needed to pay for the bad calls.  Sorry, even if those things prove true it does not excuse criminal behavior.  The assistant coach should be fired if he instigated the attacks on the ref.

Unfortunately, this behavior is a reflection of American society in general.  Violent movies and television top the charts and traditional moral values are disdained.

When I was growing up, parents trained their children to respect their elders and personally took care of the misbehavior of their children.  I can’t help but wonder what the home life of these players is like.  What kind of parents do they have?

What kind of society have we become?
