In a press release, Governor Daugaard says he HAS TO TAKE THEM.

“Governors do not have the authority to ban refugees from their states, or to refuse to accept refugees. These decisions are made by the federal government.”

Instead of standing firm and saying South Dakota will not accept any of these Syrian refugees, he says he is now “joining many other governors in calling on the federal government to re-examine our process for background checks” .  Joined them in calling for better background checks, not joining them in saying “no” to Syrian refugees.  There is a difference.

Some media headlines say Daugaard is refusing Syrian refugees.  It is SPIN, not truth.  If you read the Daugaard press release for yourself, you will conclude that the media headlines are presenting an ILLUSION, not the facts.

Those who know have said the vetting process is a farce.   

It might be important to note that Daugaard DOES NOT SAY he will refuse to accept these Syrian refuges.  His press release is really little more than his justification for accepting the OBAMA dictate.

Daugaard ends his press release with an Obama-esque assurance, “my first priority as Governor, is to keep our people safe”.  His press release takes the Obama tone of lecturing Americans on their values.  It is political double-speak at its finest.  Daugaard has not changed his position on accepting Syrian refugees.  He has simply changed his rhetoric.

Obama and Daugaard, keeping America safe.
