The Energy Of God Within Us

Yesterday I filled my car with gas.

Had I not done so it would have eventually stopped and with time if not cared for rusted into oblivion. In many respects humanity is like a car only what keeps us going is renewing our source of energy through keeping and fulfilling the Word of God. This was the point the Psalmist was making in Psalm 119:16. We need to delight in and find pleasure in the study and carrying out of God’s Word. Doing so is like taking on a new tank of gas each morning.

The key is energy and as I learned today without new energy all matter eventually gravitates toward disorder (Second Law of Thermodynamics). Our spiritual life is no different. Without the right kind of fuel disorder will ultimately happen. Knowing this what we seek as a Christian is to be filled with the energy of God and that begins, as Christ tells us in Acts 1:8, with the filling of the Holy Spirit. This requires that I live the Christian life daily by putting to death all the disorder (sin) which the body will naturally gravitate toward (Romans 8:13). I do this by witnessing to my life in Christ (Acts 1:8) in every way imaginable.

Living my life in such a manner will provide me with abundant living as I will be filled with the hope that comes with the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13). I can have that hope no matter what circumstance confronts my life. It is this filling with the spirit and all that goes with it that gives me the confidence to speak out on the positions I do (vs. 14). I believe our world today needs to be admonished and only those truly filled with the Holy Spirit and living with the energy God desires for us are the ones to do so (vs. 14). In fact it is our responsibility and will always be so.

The ultimate energy from God, not totally unlike buying the highest octane fuel for our vehicles, will lead to our resurrection and reunion with God (1 Corinthians 6:14). That is THE ENERGY OF GOD WITHIN US.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: The energy of God is an effective force when all our emotion is channeled toward our Eternal Father.

DEVOTIONAL VERSE FOR TODAY: Psalm 119:16 “necessary for renewed energy”.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord fill me with Your energy.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT:

  1. In what respect are cars like the human body?
  2. How do you refuel on the Holy Spirit?
  3. Do you feel you have the authority to admonish others and if so why?
  4. Where does ultimate energy come from?
