Better The Second Time Around

Image result for life is good        Although this title is not true across the broad spectrum of life there still remains truth in the expression. For example after several decades of marriage and the opportunity for a comfortable retirement, my wife and I in our love for travel are returning to some places we have been before but it is now with a different perspective and purpose. The experiences as a result of this are richer and fuller.

In the time of Paul this was also the situation. In Galatians 2:1 we read of his return to Jerusalem after a 14 year absence. Absence did indeed make the heart grow fonder but this trip there was a new purpose which was to receive approval from the pillars of the faith (Peter, James and John) of his preaching a Gospel of Grace. This was given and he was also reminded to help the poor during a time of what many believed to be a famine (Acts 11:27-28). A return trip for Paul well worth the taking.

As a person matures in life (while others simply get older) their faith and understanding of it should likewise mature. When this happens there is a richness and fullness in day to day experiences that is almost indescribable. In many respects it seems like you are living life all over again and it truly is BETTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Life is triumphant when the light from our Lord shines upon it.

DEVOTIONAL VERSE FOR TODAY: Galatians 2:1 “a return trip”.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord thank you for adding so much to the richness of my life.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT:

  1. How can the ‘second time around’ produce a richer and fuller experience?
  2. Where today are famines that require our support?
  3. What is the difference between maturing in life versus simply getting older?
  4. In what respects are you experiencing a second go round in life?
