I Voted For Bernie Sanders

You might wonder why…

a

Let me tell you!

I have been a registered Republican most of my adult life.  In 2014 I changed my registration to Independent to run for US Senate against former Governor Mike Rounds.  My disgust with Republican and Democrat leaders alike caused me to think voters should have a conservative alternative in that race.  After that election, I left my registration as an Independent intact.  I wholeheartedly support the South Dakota Republican Party Platform, but have been seriously disappointed with elected officials who abandon the platform as soon as they are in office.

Back to the vote for Sanders…

This morning when my wife and I went to vote, we discovered that there was no ballot available for Independents.  I mistakenly thought we would still be able to vote in non-partisan elections such as school board and county commission.  Not so.  We were, however, eligible to vote in the Democrat Presidential primary as registered Independents.  Hence, the dilemma.  Not vote at all, or cast a ballot for one of the two Democrats running for President.  I chose the later.

It was actually a rare opportunity to have some input into the Democrat party.  The choice wasn’t too hard for me.  Clinton and Sanders both represent almost everything I disagree with, but Sanders would likely be the least effective in propelling a far-left agenda.  I don’t take voting lightly but I will admit to smiling… even chuckling as I cast my vote for Bernie Sanders.

After voting for Sanders, I re-registered as a Republican…

Reluctantly.
