You Have The Right To Remain Silent

When you hear the words…

… “You have the right to remain silent”, it brings an image of someone being arrested.  For the purpose of this article, it means something quite different.

President Richard Nixon used the phrase, “Silent majority”.

Today, there are still many people who just go about their lives without regard to what is happening around them.  “Live and let live” might be their excuse for not being vocal or engaged.  It’s true, you do have the right to remain silent.  You also have the right to be uninformed.  Many people choose to exercise that right as well.  It’s how we got in the mess we’re in.

There is a lot of political noise these days, but much of the noise is coming from people who are not informed… or mis-informed.

Eight years ago, the majority of voting Americans elected a President, based on a bumper sticker.  Hope and Change.  The result of those votes, have been disastrous for America.  Even more responsible are the voices of those that were not heard.  They chose to remain silent.  They chose to remain uninformed.  They chose not to vote.

Not long ago, South Dakota elected a Governor (Dennis Daugaard) and a US Senator (Mike Rounds).  The bumper stickers were “Common Sense” and “Conservative”.  Neither have proven true.  If South Dakotans had chosen to be informed, engaged and vocal, neither of these candidates would have won their Party’s nomination.

If people had chosen to be informed, engaged and vocal eight years ago, we would have never seen a President Barack Obama.

The “silent majority” needs to come out of the closet.
