A Silent Message To South Dakota Republican Leaders

Did anyone notice?

The election is over.  The votes have been counted.

During the campaign we heard LOTS of people talking about their unhappiness with Donald Trump.  Many people opted to leave that space blank on their ballot.  It was the only option they felt they had left.

That didn’t surprise me, but something else has peaked my interest.  I have encountered a SIGNIFICANT number of Republican voters who said they left some OTHER spaces blank on their ballots.

I decided to do a little research.  Here is what I discovered.

The number of people who left their ballot BLANK in statewide races when they went to the polls may be a silent message to Republican leaders.  With all the talk about Trump being unpopular, you might be interested to know that more people chose not to vote in the South Dakota statewide races than those who didn’t vote in the Presidential race.

Here are the number of voters who declined to vote in these races:

Trump Presidential contest      8,948

Thune Senate race                  9,376

Noem House race                    9,052

Nelson PUC race                   22,227

The voters I have talked to were sending a clear message by leaving these respective spaces blank.  One might draw the conclusion that South Dakota Republican leaders are even less popular with voters than was Donald Trump.  That would be noteworthy.

I wonder if anyone got the message.

I voted for the only conservative in the presidential race (Darrell Castle), so I did vote in that one. However, since there were no conservatives in the U.S. Senate or House race, I did leave those blank.

No matter how much I am fear-mongered by quislings and compromisers, I have vowed to never knowingly vote for a liberal in either party (which includes RINOs by default) again, and by God’s grace, I mean to keep that vow.
