God is… Truth

God “is” a “right now”, “in this moment” God; alive, active and available to us. His “substance”, “characteristics”, and “character” is “Truth”.But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is,…..” Hebrews 11:6

Psalm 31:5 (NKJV)
Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

The Hebrew word translated “truth” in Psalm 31:5 is “ʾemet (eh’-meth)”: stability; figurative certainty, truth, trustworthiness :- assured (-ly), establishment, faithful, right, sure, true (-ly, -th), verity. (Strong’s Greek & Hebrew Dictionary) “ʾEmet” comes from a group of words that relate to the “truth” as a part of God’s nature and character, and as such, the foundation for man’s “faith” in Him.

“’ĕmet. Truth, faithfulness, verity. (ASV and RSV usually the same.) This word carries underlying sense of certainty, dependability….We find it used in several categories of contexts, all of which relate to God directly or indirectly…First, it is frequently applied to God as a characteristic of his nature….It is a term fittingly applied to God’s words….As a characteristic of God revealed to men, it therefore becomes the means by which men know and serve God as their savior, and then, as a characteristic to be found in those who have indeed come to God….Because it is an attribute of God which is manifest in man’s salvation and life of service as God’s child, the word is often coupled with another attribute of God related to our salvation, “mercy” or “love” (ḥesed)….And because these attributes of God’s truth and mercy lead to God’s peace toward sinful men, saved by God’s grace, the word is also often coupled with peace….As we study its various contexts, it becomes manifestly clear that there is no truth in the biblical sense, i.e. valid truth, outside God. All truth comes from God and is truth because it is related to God.” (Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament)

In the New Testament; “truth”, “alētheia” (al-ay’-thi-a): “truth,” is used (a) objectively, signifying “the reality lying at the basis of an appearance; the manifested, veritable essence of a matter”; especially of Christian doctrine, where “the truth of the Gospel” denotes the “true” teaching of the Gospel, in contrast to perversions of it; where “the truth of God” may be “the truth concerning God” or “God whose existence is a verity;” but in Rom 15:8 “the truth of God” is indicative of His faithfulness in the fulfillment of His promises as exhibited in Christ; the word has an absolute force in John 14:6; John 17:17; John 18:37, 38; in Eph. 4:21, where the RV, “even as truth is in Jesus,” gives the correct rendering, the meaning is not merely ethical “truth,” but “truth” in all its fullness and scope, as embodied in Him; He was the perfect expression of the truth; this is virtually equivalent to His statement in John 14:6; (Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words).

“…the word has an ‘absolute force’ in John 14:6; John 17:17; John 18:37, 38; in Eph. 4:21.”

Jesus said to him, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.” John 14:6 (Amplified Bible)

Yeshua said, “I AM the Way — and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 (Complete Jewish Bible)

As Jesus spoke to His disciples the night of The Last Supper, and He prayed for them and all who would follow Him because of their words and efforts (which will include you and me). Among what He prayed, was this statement: “Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.” (John 17:17 Amplified Bible)

Pilate said to Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, You say it! [You speak correctly!] For I am a King. [Certainly I am a King!] This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears and listens to My voice. John 18:37 (Amplified Bible)

Assuming that you have really heard Him and been taught by Him, as [all] Truth is in Jesus [embodied and personified in Him], Ephesians 4:21 (Amplified Bible)

The “Truth” of God, the “Truth” embodied in His Word and in Jesus Christ, has “an absolute force”. That “absolute force”, as demonstrated through the workings of God and the life of Jesus Christ, CHANGES THINGS! The “absolute force” of God’s “Truth” was manifested in Creation; in the miraculous happenings in the Old Testament; in the conception, life, miracles, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, in the “new creation” we become in Christ, and in the miracles of God that happen in the earth every day; the “Truth” changes things.

Keep this in mind as we consider the “isness” of God’s “Truth”: throughout history, and in our everyday lives, “facts” are all around us; BUT, “facts” are subject to change when they come in contact with the “absolute force” of the “Truth” of God.

Our concept of His “isness”; the manner in which we define His nature, substance, characteristics, and character, and the way we “receive” His “isness” into our life and depend on (have faith in) it, will be the role that we “anticipate/expect” or “will allow” God to play in our lives.

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is,…..” God “is” “Truth”.
