Why You Should Vote No On “W”

There are many things about Amendment W that should worry every voter.
First, it’s an omnibus, meaning it has many different and unrelated provisions bundled together. An omnibus is a device used to hide bad things and only focus on the positive aspects to pass it. In this case, it is hoped by the proponents that they can count on the outrage over IM 22 to carry this radical Constitutional Amendment over the finish line.
Second, the powerful Government Accountability Board “W” creates is a de facto fourth branch of government that is insulated, well-funded and unelected. The first four members are selected by the Supreme Court and the Governor, and those four pick the other three members. We’ve seen that kind of elitist panel before; it won’t end corruption.
Third, although “W” limits the “white badge” private sector lobbyists, it does nothing to curb the government “blue badge” lobbyists. Those are the unelected Executive Branch bureaucrats who are paid with your tax dollars to lobby the Legislature. Their goal is to gain more power and control by growing their departments and increasing their budgets. That’s how corruption is born and nurtured; “W” will only make it worse.
Fourth, big out-of-state money sources are behind this effort to tinker with our Constitution, this was not grass-roots driven.
Finally, the biggest concern is what’s written in §17, paragraph 2: “In case of a conflict between any provisions of this Article and any other provision contained in this Constitution, the provisions of this Article shall control.” Amendment W makes itself supreme above the rest of the Constitution. That’s dangerous.

Vote NO on Amendment W.
