Shortwave Radio Experience Returns at Radio.Garden

There was a time when the thrill of shortwave radio listening was synonymous with solitary learners who excitedly turned dials to listen to live locations all over the world. The hobby often branched off into ham radio and lifelong learning.

Those who want a similar experience should go to the Radio.garden site to access live radio stations all over the planet.  It is now based upon Google Earth mapping with location dots where live streaming Internet broadcasts are located. The service is free, safe, and very easy to use. Overlaid on the maps is key information about the station currently being listened to.

Shortwave once attracted young people like video games do today, but checking out live radio can also be educationally motivating. There’s even a “History” sprouting button that will skip here and there to highlight historical events.  Politically speaking, this tool will allow for wider perspectives than is now available on local radio stations and liberal East Coast/West Coast television monopolies.

I agree. As a seasoned licensed amateur radio operator hearing the news from outside the United States and Canada often lends a very different flavor and perspective that is enlightening.
