Achieving Racial Healing and Harmony

Yes, it is possible.

Unfortunately, there are some who choose to dwell on injustices and hateful events of the past.  Even dwelling on those things found in current events can be used to created further division and hatred.  It doesn’t mean we should ignore them, but it would serve us well to realize that there are those who seek to use them in a manner that actually continues to aggravate an open wound.

I am thankful to be part of a church community with a very diverse racial and cultural composition.  It is a living example of how people can live together in love and harmony.  Even here, there are moments when offense or division can raise its ugly head.  When that happens, it is dealt with firmly but lovingly.  I find myself praying that the rest of the world could get a hold of what our little church has.

My patience is tested by those who relentlessly publish and promote things that lend themselves to hatred and division rather than love and unity.  I confess that I do not practice it perfectly either, but wouldn’t it be a better world if we all could follow the instructions found in Philippians 4:8?

“whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
