Beyond Meat… What’s In It??

Fake meat is on the menu.

Count me out!

I can tolerate the “veggie burger”, but manufactured meat is a bridge to far for me.  One look at what is in it makes it unacceptable on my plate:

Here’s what’s in a Beyond Burger:

Water
Pea protein isolate
Expeller-pressed canola oil
Refined coconut oil

Cellulose from bamboo
Methylcellulose
Potato starch
Natural flavor
Maltodextrin
Yeast extract
Salt
Sunflower oil
Vegetable glycerin
Dried yeast
Gum arabic
Citrus extract
Ascorbic acid
Beet juice extract
Acetic acid
Succinic acid
Modified food starch
Annatto

That seems like a long way to go in an attempt to imitate real beef.  If I want something other than beef, I’ll just have a carrot.

I have been surprised at the food chains that have begun to use this fake meat.  Subway, Famous Dave’s and Carl Jr. to name a few.  They are now OFF my list of options for dining out.

I will let my cows manufacture my beef, thank you.
