Plenty of Choices in South Dakota’s “One Party” Rule

“Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule—and both commonly succeed, and are right,” wrote H. L. Mencken in his Notebooks in 1956.

America’s two-party rule is just as stagnated and stalemated today. The online dictionary fittingly defines entropy as “gradual decline into disorder.” So what if South Dakota’s Democratic Party recently closed its two remaining offices in Rapid City and Sioux Falls?

Truth be told, the South Dakota GOP has a big enough tent to represent political persuasions across the spectrum. Frustrated Democrats have already migrated to the party that can win elections. As in every country with so-called one-party rule, factions abound.   It was true of the Nazis and Soviets—and the Chinese today.  Factions spawn choice.

The South Dakota GOP has members from both the right and left, and everything in between. Why can’t this be a viable, supportable form of democracy? Or should we encourage candidates on the right to enter primaries in one party states that are now Democratic?

This is exactly why it is time for a party that upholds true Constitutional principles. Principles that helped America grow into the great nation it is. Now as we begin to slide down the slippery slope of government mandating everything, free money for all, ignoring and even condemning our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. our country will not be blessed. We need to change our attitudes and our hearts and follow our God given principles
