Now that Muammar Qaddafi, is dead, the real danger begins.
As in other Middle Eastern countries that have undergone political transitions resultant from the Arab Spring, we can be sure that militant Islamic jihadists will have their game on. They have already proven adept recently at using democratic processes to undermine democracy—especially where chaos reigns.
And chaos will reign.
We will be told repeatedly that now is the time for the US to come to the aid of Libyans to ensure the establishment of democracy, that it is our responsibility, that the U.S. should support this transition with the key things the new government needs to be successful…..that will be money. The Obama administration will insist on emergency aid for the war torn country. Emergency aid that we cannot afford to give.
Hillary Clinton just departed Libya earlier this week acting and sounding more like a Peace Corps director than a secretary of state. She doled out $11 million in US taxpayer funds.
With blinding speed the assets and all of the former Qaddafi government’s funds abroad will be unfrozen and made available to Libya’s Transitional National Council. We will be sold on the premise that the new Libyan government will need this to maintain order and support its cities until oil exports and the private economy can be resumed.
What we will wind up funding is the ascendancy of the Muslim Brotherhood to power in a land that is no more a nation than Obama is a king. Libya is comprised of a conglomeration of tribes that were temporarily unified by the tyranny of Qaddafi, emboldened by the uprising in Egypt and supported illegally by Obama through the ruse of NATO.
One can only hope the Obama regime approaches transitional Libya with more ability and clear thinking than it has next door in Egypt where we now have inexplicably reached out to the Islamists in the Muslim Brotherhood and the freedom loving Egyptians are slaughtering Christians and burning churches.
Qaddafi’s Libya was no threat to the security of the US. A new regime there has much more probability to become one.
They have no real understanding of democracy nor the very real prices that must be paid to make one work. The brutality displayed in the capture and murder of Qaddafi is testament to their utter lack of understanding of the rule of law.
Qaddafi is dead now the real danger begins.
