Republican Ship Of State Is Taking On Some Water

What does it mean to be a Republican?  No, really, what does it mean??

If you are a Conservative Christian, do you still belong on the Republican ship?  Right now, it seems to be sinking, so you have a decision to make.  Do you stay on board and try to save the ship or let it sink and look for another ride home?

A look at the Republican Presidential race thus far could help you decide.  Let’s review…

Donald Trump; soared in the polls for a moment in time, publicly used language so foul I won’t even abbreviate it here, then withdrew from the race.  Thank God.

Herman Cain; Another candidate who enjoyed a moment in the sun.  Refused to sign the pro-life pledge, then changed his mind. 999 was overshadowed by allegations of sexual misconduct. Suspended his campaign.

John Huntsman; Refused to sign the pro-life pledge.  Suffered from a serious case of a liberal virus.  Is it any surprise he endorsed Romney after he left the race.

Rick Perry; A Governor that many cheered as a Christian champion even before he entered the race.  His inability to speak well created a firestorm that overshadowed his core convictions.  After trying to revive his campaign with a “part-time Congress” proposal, he left the race for lack of support.  His spiritual convictions became suspect when he endorsed Gingrich over Santorum.

Tim Pawlenty; Left the race.  Endorsed Romney.  Enough said.

Michele Bachmann; Won the Iowa straw poll, but couldn’t rally the support she needed to win.  A truly principled candidate who was dismissed by the media as well as voters as “unelectable”.  Too principled, I guess.  A real loss for the ideal of One Nation Under God.  She has the spiritual depth and strength to lead America in the right direction.  America didn’t follow.

So how do the remaining four candidates stack up?

Paul, Gingrich and Santorum have signed the pro-life pledge.  Romney is apparently still trying to make up his mind.

Paul continues to beat the fiscal responsiblity drum.  He’s right on that, you know.

Gingrich is the star of the day, performing well in the debates and effectively deflecting attacks from previous wives and media.

Romney is staying the course.  Release of his tax returns this week can’t be helpful to him.

Santorum should be soaring, having been endorsed by Christian leaders in the last week.  Something will have to change very soon for him to become the nominee.

If the body of Christ would simply vote their values, we would nominate and elect a candidate that truly represents our principles.

The chance for us to do that is fading fast.  The ship is sinking.
