Tolerating Racial Hatred In Rapid City, South Dakota

Hate is an ugly thing.

Racially motivated hate is an unacceptable blight on humanity.

Perhaps even worse, though, are those who tolerate it.  Such appears to be the case at a recent hockey game in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Students and staff from the American Horse School were reportedly subjected to assault and verbal abuse.  Local media reports say, ” people in the suite (located above the children and staff) began verbally harassing the students and throwing beer on some of the students and staff. A teacher rounded up the student group, and they left out of fear for their safety.”

The question in my mind is this: Why didn’t other people seated in the area simply put a stop to this abuse and compel the perpetrators to leave instead?  The reported abuse is certainly bad, but from my perspective, the inaction of bystanders is even worse.  How can anyone stand (or sit) idly by and do nothing?

Have we become so wicked as a society that we will no longer rise up in righteous anger when we see hatred and injustice?

I think so.

In America (and, yes, in South Dakota) we stand quietly by as unborn children are killed every day.  It shouldn’t surprise us when people do nothing to defend a group of Native children and their teachers being assaulted and verbally abused.  It should, however, disappoint us.  Aren’t we better than that?  Can’t we BE better than that?

Rise up Samaritans.  Lead our State and Nation back to the foot of the cross.

Ummmm….help me out here….would not Pat Powers fit this bill as a cyber bully? He throws lies, spews banal blasphemy, and spits verbal bile on people he deems worthy of his onslaught… and yet “Christians” can’t wait to see his “hatred on screen”. The man is perfected fitted for his name….he belongs to the demonic hierarchy of “powers”, greater than the role of “principalities”. I pray for this man’s soul…but until God intervenes in his life…shouldn’t true Christians denounce his vile hatred?

The blogsphere seems to be filled with misinformation and vitriol. There is certainly a place for “denouncing the darkness”. The challenge for me is determining whether to curse the darkness or spread the light… I think there is a time and place for both, but my focus has shifted personally to be directed more at spreading the light. God help us!!

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

        Yep…keep quiet… THAT will work…
Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
